Police: Armed Man Arrested In Fort Mill After Hours-Long Standoff With Police

FORT MILL, S.C. — A man suspected of firing gunshots into the air and then barricading himself inside a home in Fort Mill was taken into custody on Thursday after an hours-long standoff with police.

Around 5:45 p.m., officers were called to a home on Nims Street after receiving multiple calls of shots fired.

At the scene, officers say they attempted to make contact with the homeowner, Robert Alan Duckworth.

Police say Duckworth refused to speak with officers, failed to comply with their commands, and then barricaded himself inside of the home.

A request was then made for help from the York County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, and members responded to the scene.

Several hours of attempted negotiations later, SWAT officers entered the home and apprehended Duckworth without further incident.

Police say he was placed into emergency protective custody and taken to a local hospital.

A handgun and ammunition were found inside the home, according to a news release.

Police say an arrest warrant on the charge of Discharging a Firearm Within Town Limits is pending for Duckworth.
