SHELBY, N.C.– A man died in a three car accident in Shelby Saturday afternoon. Β
Police say 59-year-old George “Jay” Allen Mebane was driving east on Marion Street toward Highway 74 when he veered to the left and drove into the intersection hitting a stopped tractor trailer.Β
The impact caused the tractor trailer to slide to the left, hitting a vehicle in the next lane.Β
Mebane was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Β He was evaluated and released with no injuries. Β
The driver of the third vehicle was not injured. Β
No charges were filed and the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Β
