MINT HILL, NC – Years of frustration could be coming to an end for residents fed up with their water company. Some Aqua NC customers in Mint Hill have complained for years about discolored and nasty-looking drinking water.
They hope Charlotte City Council will green light a plan for Charlotte Water to buy the system Monday night. “My gosh, it’s crazy to make us drink this water!” says Mint Hill resident Ed Simmons.
WCCB Charlotte first reported on the water issues in 2012. Aqua NC told residents then that the water was still safe to drink.
And while neighbors like Kenny Gilmore say things have improved in the last year, he still wants to see a change. “It’s eroding the water heaters, the showers, just the quality of the water in general is not what been up to what I think would be simple standards,” Gilmore says.
The deal would cost a little over $2.5 Million. There would also be $850,000 in costs for improvements including adding fire hydrants, replacing water meters, and extending the water main.
