SALISBURY, N.C. — Police arrested a convicted sex offender for being at a public park. Β Investigators say someone called police to report a man acting strange at Ellis Park on Old Mocksville Road. Β
Witnesses helped police determined that Leonard Smith, Jr. was the man acting strange inside the park. Β Police say they were able to confirm that Smith did visit the park. Β He was arrested and charged with being a sex offender on a child premises, which is a felony.
Police say there is a large sign at the entrance of the park stating sex offenders are not allowed on the property.
