Convicted Sex Offender Arrested For Visiting Public Park

SALISBURY, N.C. — Police arrested a convicted sex offender for being at a public park.  Investigators say someone called police to report a man acting strange at Ellis Park on Old Mocksville Road.  

Witnesses helped police determined that Leonard Smith, Jr. was the man acting strange inside the park.  Police say they were able to confirm that Smith did visit the park.  He was arrested and charged with being a sex offender on a child premises, which is a felony.

Police say there is a large sign at the entrance of the park stating sex offenders are not allowed on the property.
