DAVIDSON, NC — A new resolution to stop the I-77 toll lane project, but some say it doesn’t go far enough. Β Commissioners in the Town of Davidson approved a plan tonight that supports legislative efforts to stop the project.

There’s concern about part of the project’s contract that would add a penalty for building general purpose lanes between Cornelius and Mooresville. Β Members of the group Widen I-77 say commissioners could have done much more to show their support.

“It was an extraordinarily weak, spineless resolution; that is what you would call it,” said Vallee Bubak of Widen I-77. Β “Basically, they did not say to terminate the contract. Β If anything, it gives the green light to the tolls.”

The NC DOT responded to a similar resolution passed by the Town of Cornelius. Β It said it will not terminate the express lanes project because doing so would result in a big penalty.
