WAXHAW, N.C. — The SBI has been called in to investigate an officer involved shooting in Waxhaw.
Detectives say a deputy responded to a domestic disturbance just before 11pm Wednesday night on Porter Drive. The suspect, Kenneth Howie III, is accused of chasing a man with a knife.
When the deputy arrived on the scene, he says Howie approached him with the knife. The deputy allegedly ordered Howie to drop the weapon but investigators say he continued to advance towards the deputy.
The officer fired one round from his service weapon, striking Howie. Medical assistance was immediately summoned and Howie was taken to a local hospital.
Officials say Howie will recover from his injuries. The deputy was not injured during the encounter.
