Worldwide Red Bull Paper Plane Competition Lands In Charlotte March 22nd

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The world’s largest paper plane competition is coming to Charlotte on Tuesday.

Participants across the globe must make a plain sheet of paper fly as far, as long, or as artistically through the air as possible for the chance to compete in the Red Bull Paper Wings World Final in Austria.

Local college students from UNCC and beyond will compete Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Belk Gym, as the regional qualifier lands in Charlotte.

Students will compete to go higher and farther than their classmates for the opportunity to then compete in the National Finals and then the World Finals in Austria.

National winners in three categories (distance, airtime, and aerobatics) will be invited to the Red Bull Paper Wings Final in Salzburg, Austria, where the 2022 world champions will be crowned.

Regional Qualiflyers across the country, including the March 22nd competition hosted by UNCC, will judge the distance and airtime categories, while the aerobatics category will live online for student pilots from all over the country to enter via TikTok by using #redbullpaperwings #USA and tagging @redbull when submitting their entries.
