UPDATE: Police say Troutman murder suspect Jeffrey Gillespie was taken into custody in Charlotte. Gillespie is accused of killing his estranged wife’s boyfriend. Gillespie will be charged with first degree murder in the death of Robert Swedlund.
TROUTMAN, NC — A domestic dispute turns into the Town of Troutman’s first murder of the year. Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a man they say shot and killed his estranged wife’s boyfriend.
33-year-old Jeffrey Gillespie is believed to be armed and dangerous. He’s accused of killing 25-year-old Robert Swedlund in the parking lot of Troutman Animal Hospital early Tuesday morning. Deputies would not say how Swedlund was killed or if he was shot, but they did saw residents should be on alert.
“I believe he’s out of this area, but he is armed and dangerous,” said Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell. “You don’t know what he’s capable of or what’s in his vehicle.”
Deputies say Gillespie has family in Charlotte and Virginia, and he could be hiding in either area.
