Β PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA — Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius whispered and broke down while testifying in his murder trial. Β At one point, he spoke so quietly, the judge in South Africa asked him to speak up. Β Pistorius is accused of shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Β He says he mistoook her for an intruder. Β At one point during the testimony, Pistorius spoke directly to his girlfriend’s family.
“You’re the first people I think of, the first people I pray for,” he said. Β “I can’t imagine the pain, sorrow, and emptiness I’ve caused your family.”
Pistorius also testified that his mother always had guns and raised him to be scared of criminals. Β Prosecutors believe Pistorius killed Steenkamp out of jealousy.
