Family Dollar Shareholders Vote To Merge With Dollar Tree

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Family Dollar shareholders have voted to merge with Dollar Tree.  The vote took place at the Mint Museum Thursday morning in Uptown.

Shareholders had to decide between Dollar Tree and Dollar General.  Both companies were in a major bidding war for Family Dollar.  

Dollar Tree’s offer stood at $8.5 billion, which is approximately half a billion dollars less than the offer made by Dollar General.  

Family Dollar is a Matthews-based company that employs approximately 1,500 employees.  This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
