Β CHARLOTTE, NC — Working to connect veterans with potential employers. Β Charlotte Bridge Home held a Veterans Summit at the Charlotte Convention Center Tuesday. Β The group helps military members transition back to civilian life. Β Veterans’ advocate and Charlotte resident Paula Broadwell says it’s a tough time with so many troops returning home after wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“They don’t know how to translate their skills to the employer,” said Broadwell. Β “And an employer doesn’t know that even though they were in the infantry, they have tremendous leadership experience. Β They can lead through adversity, they’re adaptive, resilient. Β They’re loyal.”
Broadwell says many veterans also face stigmas from employers who are concerned about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other health care issues.
