MIAMI (AP) β€” FIU coach Cindy Russo has resigned citing health issues, immediately ending a 36-year career.

An interim coach has not been formally named, though associate head coach Inge Nissen β€” who has been on FIU’s staff for 26 years β€” is expected to take the reins at least in the short term.

Russo went 667-371 with the Panthers and 707-391 overall. Her team is off to a 3-13 start this season and plays at Florida Atlantic on Saturday.

Russo’s mother died last month after a long illness. Russo says that “now it’s time to take care of myself.”
