CHARLOTTE, NC — A North Carolina father, kidnapped in an elaborate plot, is back with his family tonight.  The FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team freed Frank Janssen in Atlanta around midnight.

Investigators think Janssen was kidnapped from Wake Forest five days ago because of his daughter’s work on drug and gang cases.  She’s an Assistant District Attorney in Wake County.

“Specific demands were sent to Mr. Janssen’s family for the benefit of Kelvin Melton, an inmate at the Polk Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina,” said Charlotte FBI Special Agent in Charge John Strong.

Five people are charged in the case.  Janssen’s wife says she received several threatening messages, including one that said her husband was in a trunk en route to California.
