CHARLOTTE, NC: The week long observance of Kwanzaa begins today. The celebration highlights important life principles and African-American culture.

Local Kwanzaa Celebrations:

Thursday: “Umoja”/ Unity – Greenville Memorial AME Zion Church, 6116 Monteith Drive, 7 PM – 9 PM

Friday: “Kujichaguila”/ Self Determination – Wallace Pruitt Rec Center, 501 Bruns Ave., 7 PM – 9 PM

Saturday: “Ujima”/ Collective Work & Responsibility – Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, 551 S. Tryon Street, 11 AM – 3 PM

Saturday: Nubian Roots, Tuckaseegee Rec Center, 4820 Tuckaseegee Road
