DENVER, NC – A mail carrier has died after a 60-foot tree crashed down on her mail truck. It happened just before 5:00pm Saturday in the Westport community on Lake Norman.
Neighbors say they heard it and rushed out to help, but the 43-year-old postal worker was pronounced dead on the scene.
“Just spoke with her yesterday. She was delivering me some packages. Sad to hear, you know, thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Hopefully, other people weren’t hurt as bad,” said neighbor Dawn Nichols.
Investigators are not releasing the mail carrier’s name until her family has been notified.
UPDATE: Authorities have identified the mail carrier as 43 year old Lisa Wilkerson of Sherrill’s Ford.
