Kirk Hawkins

Kirk Hawkins anchors and reports weeknights on WCCB News. He joined the station in March 2012, and helped lead the station’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention. He also reported live from Washington, D.C. during Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx’s confirmation hearing for U.S. Transportation Secretary. Hawkins came to WCCB from KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles, where he worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor. During his time in LA, Hawkins covered several celebrity stories, including the deaths of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, and the legal saga of Lindsey Lohan. He was inside the courtroom during the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, and reported for The Insider. The Los Angeles Press Club honored Hawkins for his breaking news coverage of the Occupy LA movement. Hawkins covered space shuttle launches while he worked at WFTV in Orlando.He flew with the Air Force Thunderbirds when he worked at KXLY in Spokane, and he was recognized by the Associated Press after nearly being arrested while covering a prison riot for KCOY in Santa Barbara. Hawkins also played himself in the film “Surrogates,” starring Bruce Willis. He is the recipient of two Edward R. Murrow Awards. Hawkins graduated from the University of California in Santa Barbara with bachelor‘s degrees in communication and political science. He minored in history.
