Mayoral Hopeful Edwin Peacock Reveals Plan to Fight Violent Crime

CHARLOTTE, NC — Republican candidate for Mayor Edwin Peacock reveals his plan to fight violent crime in Charlotte.  He says on his first day in office, he would create a crime reduction commission.

The commission would work to reduce gang-related crime, human trafficking and drug crime.  Peacock also wants City Council members to do ride alongs with CMPD to better understand what officers face day-to-day.

“I would like to see them bring to me, the Mayor, say I would like for this neighborhood to receive this many resources. I want this neighborhood to receive that. I would much rather see City Council debate about solving crime within their district as opposed to fights about issues that are insignificant, frankly, in the bigger dialogue, and I don’t think citizens want that,” said Peacock.

There have been 49 murders in Charlotte so far this year compared to 42 in all of last year.  Peacock will face either Democrat Jennifer Roberts or Dan Clodfelter.  Their runoff election is Tuesday.

Voters will then elect a new Mayor in November.
