CHARLOTTE, NC —Β October is Domestic Violence Awareness MonthΒ and sadly, another domestic violence murder here in Charlotte prompted a march in Uptown on Thursday.
Police say 37-year-old Judith Dausey was killed by her ex-boyfriend September 19th. Β Thursday’s march was meant to help raise awareness that help is available for victims, andΒ even for abusers.
If you know someone who is in an abusive relationship, here’s some help on what you can say to them:
“One thing they can do is make that person aware of resources,” says Domestic Violence Advocacy Council Chairwoman Bea Cote. Β “And you can say ‘I’m not sure what’s really going on with you but I’m really concerned and I want you to know that you can talk to me confidentially. I also have this list of resources that I wanna give you.'”
Making the decision to leave an abusive relationship can be the most dangerous time for the victim.Β Free services are available in Mecklenburg County to help.
