Mother Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter After Son Drowns

CHARLOTTE, NC — A Newton woman charged in connection to her son’s drowning will spend at least 16 months in prison.

Kelli Ledford pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Wednesday. Her four-year-old son Logan Putnam died in May of 2014.

Investigators say he was under the water at Lookout Shoals Lake for nearly 10 minutes. Investigators say Ledford was more than 200 feet away, and wasn’t watching him or several other children while they swam.
