JCSU Football Coach Responds to Allegations

CHARLOTTE, NC — The head football coach at Johnson C. Smith University is under investigation for not feeding a group of his players who showed up late to a team breakfast.
Several players and athletic trainers were denied breakfast at the team hotel prior to last week’s game at Virginia Union. Coach Kermit Blount says he was enforcing a team policy.
Players who are backing their coach up say everyone had the option to eat something before the game.
“We had no intent of not feeding anybody. That wasn’t our intent. That’s not what this is about. This is about the future of these young men,” said Coach Blount.
“Granola bars, oranges, bananas; all those things were available,” said JCSU linebacker Austin Jacques. “Fruit snacks, water, whatever it may be. So the opportunity to be able to eat was there.”
The JCSU administration says they are taking steps to make sure that student athletes are eating meals at the scheduled times.
