Student Arrested After Posting Threats On Social Media

CHARLOTTE, NC — Oscar Gutierrez and Jesus Nunez are both students at East Rowan High School where they say a recent threat by a student wasn’t funny.
“Nah, not really, to be honest. She shouldn’t be joking about that, shooting up the school,” said Nunez.
Concern from students and parents at East Rowan High School after police say a teen threatened the school on Facebook.
17-year-old Amber Beaver is charged with communicating threats and making a false report of mass violence on an educational property.
The message on her Facebook page saying simply “school finna be lit.” Also in the pic: a small pistol, shotgun, bolt action rifle, and semi-automatic rifle.
When asked why she did it, Captain John Sifford of Rowan Sheriff’s Office says, “She thought it was a joke; she meant it to be funny. She didn’t perceive it as something that would upset people.”
Some East Rowan High School students found out about the threat on Twitter.
“They were commenting things like ‘wow, dumb for saying that” and ‘so it’s true; why would you say that, it’s very dumb, ” says Oscar Gutierrez.
Authorities tell us Beaver dropped out of East Rowan High last year, but had re-enrolled.
Her dad admitted to deputies he hadn’t seen his daughter in a week. And she was living with relatives in Spencer, which is where they found the teen.
Beaver told police she found the image used on her post on Snapchat and denied having any weapons.
“It should be a lesson to kids and everyone: be careful what you post,” said Captain Sifford.
Beaver is no stranger to crime, according to her criminal record. On February 4th she was charged with underage drinking, and on February 10th she was arrested on simple assault charges.
