CMPD released it’s 3rd quarter crime stats Friday, showing an uptick in violent crimes in our area. That includes a 47 percent increase in homicides, about a 14 percent increase in robberies, and a more than 17 percent increase in rape.

So far this year, there have been 53 murders, compared to 42 last year, something CMPD Deputy Chief Katrina Graue says is disturbing.

“It has been, it was a challenging quarter for us, and for us those increases are quite frustrating,” said Deputy Chief Graue.

CMPD is also seeing an increase in aggravated assaults: they’re up 19 percent. Property crimes like vehicle thefts are up 35 percent, and burglaries are up nearly 17 percent.

And that brings us to our Question of the Night: Why do you think violent crime in Charlotte is up?
