
UPDATE: Β A 17-year-old driver has been charged following a fatal crash that happened early Sunday morning in South Charlotte. Β
Police charged Abigail McGaha with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving. Β McGaha was released from the hospital Monday morning and booked in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– A 16-year old died in a car crash early Sunday morning in South Charlotte. Β
Police say the single car crash happened around 12:10 a.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of Colony Road, near the intersection of Sharon View Road.
According to police, a 17-year-old was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander southbound on Colony Road at a high rate of speed when they lost control of the vehicle and drove off the right side of the road. Β The 17-year-old over-corrected back to the left and went off the roadway and hit a tree in the left rear passenger area of the vehicle.
The driver and front seat passenger were transported to Carolinas Medical Center where they are in stable condition.
16-year-old Alexander Mundt was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Police say that speed was a factor in the crash. Β
