Gastonia House Fire Injures Firefighter

GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia firefighters responded to a house fire on Friday afternoon.

 
At 1:43 p.m., the Gastonia Fire Department received a call about a structure on fire on Garrison Boulevard. Firefighters arrived on the scene where a one story residential duplex had smoke coming from the front and back of the building.
 
Officials say the fire was started by food left unattended while cooking on a stove.
 
A total of 20 personnel, and 5 apparatus were on the scene. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, and is being taken to a medical facility for treatment.
 
The occupants of the home were present at the time of the fire, but were able to escape with no injuries.
 
An estimated $25,000 in damages was caused by the fire.
