SINGAPORE (AP) β Nico Rosberg topped the timesheets ahead of his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in Friday’s opening practice session for Formula One’s Singapore Grand Prix.
Rosberg badly needs to finish ahead of his teammate in Singapore to boost his hopes of making a title challenge.
Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo was third fastest, while his teammate Daniil Kvyat did little running due to a fuel supply failure.
Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were fourth and fifth, respectively.
American driver Alexander Rossi, who will make his F1 race debut on Sunday for the Manor team, provided the only major incident of the session, colliding heavily with a trackside barrier and snapping off both right-side wheels. He appeared unhurt, but the subsequent red flag ended the session three minutes short.
