Electrical Fire Sparks Evacuation at CLT Airport
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A smoky electrical fire broke out in a moving sidewalk between Concourse D and E around 1:30 Saturday afternoon, according to airport officials.
Firefighters called a two-alarm fire and got the problem under control within 15 minutes. They brought in huge fans to clear heavy smoke that filled the concourse. MEDIC says five people were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.
Airport spokeswoman Lee Davis says passengers have been moved away from this specific area and the fire department is ventilating the area. The airport remains open and the staff is working with the airlines, TSA to assist arriving and departing customers.
