CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A West Charlotte High School student was critically injured after she was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon.
The accident happened on Beatties Ford Road near Hildebrand Street. Police say Jennifer Tejeda, 16, was attempting to cross Beatties Ford Road when she ran across the roadway.
A truck with a trailer slowed to avoid striking Tejeda. Investigators say the truck obstructed the view of the vehicle that actually struck the teen.
Tejeda was found unresponsive and was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center where she is in critical condition.
Police say a marked crosswalk with caution signals is located 96 feet from the location where the teen was crossing the street. Police say the drivers involved were not speeding or impaired.
