Police: Infant Burned After Gas Can Explodes in North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  An infant has been severely burned after a gas can exploded in north Charlotte.

According to reports, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to the call on Tuesday evening.

Officers say say the residents at the location were burning trash when a gas can being used exploded, causing an infant to sustain severe burns.

A teen who lives nearby heard the explosion, but didn’t know what it was.

“We heard this loud boom, out of nowhere, and we both looked at each other like ‘what is that?'” said Malik Walker. “And then we thought it was a gunsho,t because we hear it all the time.”

The infant was reportedly airlifted for treatment. The name of the hospital has not yet been disclosed.

At this time it appears that this incident was an accident and not the result of foul play. No other information has been released at this time.
