The Edgitators: Is the NFL Missing the Point?

Another PR issue tonight for the NFL. It’s fining players for raising awareness for breast cancer and domestic violence. Pittsburgh Steelers DeAngelo Williams and William Gay were fined nearly $6,000 for “violating uniform policies.”
Williams, a former Panther who lost his mother to breast cancer, wore “Find the Cure” in his eye black at Sunday’s game. Gay wore purple cleats to honor his mother, who was murdered in a domestic violence incident.
According to the NFL rule book: “Players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the league office.”
So the NFL, punishing players for showing support to causes that are personal to them. Meanwhile, the league continues to let Greg Hardy say and do whatever he wants.
