FERGUSON, MO — A break from protests in Ferguson, Missouri as thousands join family members for Michael Brown’s funeral. A police officer shot and killed Brown on August 9. His death has sparked daily protests. Some got violent, with police in riot gear firing tear gas into crowds. Brown’s parents asked for peace today. The pastor of the church told the crowd to lead by example.
“God has placed a special calling on our lives, that we be the agents of change, If we do our job well, perhaps other mothers and fathers will not have to sit where you and I have sat,” said Bishop Edwin Bass of Church of God in Christ.
The reverend Al Sharpton gave the eulogy. Celebrities and activists who paid their respects include Martin Luther King, III, Jesse Jackson, and the family of Trayvon Martin.
