Two Attempted Abductions in One Week Have Parents on Alert

CHARLOTTE, N.C – Police aren’t taking any chances, after two separate attempted abductions in days. Now, they are stepping up patrols and getting the message out to the public.

Karen Caldwell a Hidden Valley resident said, “Oh my gosh it’s  scary, I have a granddaughter that rides the bus and gets off at the corner.”

That’s why Caldwell says she is keeping a closer eye after police say a couple driving a burgundy SUV tried to use candy to lure a 10 year old boy last Thursday.

Lt. David Harris of CMPD said, “When the kid said no they said, we’re here to pick you up, and the kid was like, he knew he was near his house and it wasn’t true so he ran away.”

The boy was walking home from the bus stop on Hidden Valley road and it’s not the only incident in the area.

A 16-year-old girl says a man tried to abduct her as she walked home from the bus stop near Briarwood academy in East Charlotte Tuesday.

“Ask if she wanted money and a ride and he tried to grab her she was able to get away and she fled the scene,” says Lt. Harris.

The girl says the man had a chipped tooth, and was driving a bright red Infiniti.

Hardin Wright of West Charlotte says, “I always tell my kids whenever they get off the bus stop, or if they at the bus stop if anybody try to lure them in a car tell them know and you walk away.”

Jessica Wrights says, “If someone ask us to get in the car we just run away and say no.”

The kids in both attempted abductions got away safely, but neighbors are still worried.

You just don’t know what could’ve happened if their out here trying to get one child what if they come back and try to get yours,” says Caldwell.
