New Air Traffic Control Tower Construction to Begin Next Year

Β
CHARLOTTE, NC — Construction is set to begin next year on Charlotte-Douglas Airport’s new air-traffic control tower.Β The project will take four years to complete.
The new tower will be twice the height of the current one, allowing controllers to see the entire air-field.Β Rep. Robert Pittenger spent two years asking the FAA to make this happen.
“There’s a lot of technology involved to make it safe as can be, and we’re thrilled to have that done,” said Rep. Pittenger.
Charlotte-Douglas is the nation’s eighth busiest airport.Β It contributes nearly $10 billion to the local economy each year.
