The Edgitators: Would You Be Comfortable Working with an Ex Con?

President Obama wants to help former prison inmates get back on track after serving their time.  Earlier this week, the President signed an executive order calling on Congress to support what’s known as the “Ban the Box” initiative. It would scrap the practice of asking applicants for federal jobs about their criminal record.

“Around 70 million Americans have some sort of criminal record… That record disqualifies you from being a full participant in our society.” said the President. He continued, “It means millions of Americans have difficult even getting their foot in the door to try to get a job.”

The new order will delay criminal background checks until later in the application process, making it easier for inmates seeking rehabilitation after serving time in prison.

So what do you think? Would you feel comfortable working next to a convicted criminal? The Edgitators weigh in…
