Brayden Schenn scores, Flyers beat Islanders split-squad 5-2

Brayden Schenn scored his third goal of the preseason to help the Philadelphia Flyers beat a visiting New York Islanders split-squad team 5-2 on Friday night.

Schenn is tied for the preseason goal lead with Detroit’s Teemu Pulkkinen and Tomas Tatar and St. Louis’ Paul Stastny and Vladimir Tarasenko.

Chris Porter, Shayne Gostisbehere, Michael Raffl and Matt Read also scored for Philadelphia, and Michal Neuvirth made 23 saves.

Bracken Kearns and Casey Cizikas scored for New York. Christopher Gibson allowed four goals on 20 shots in the first two periods, and Kevin Poulin stopped five of six shots in the third.

The rest of the Islanders also fell short in New Jersey, falling 4-2 to the Devils.

Mike Cammalleri broke a tie early in the third period, and Reid Boucher, Joseph Blandsi and John Moore also scored for the Devils. Keith Kinkaid made 23 saves for New Jersey.

Ryan Strome and Mathew Barzal scored for New York, and Stephon Williams made 23 saves.
