CHARLOTTE, NC– Police say a man was arrested Thursday after a witness watched him stab a dog multiple times.
Deputies reportedly met with a witness who explained that she watched the suspect, Phillip John Shoemaker, hold a dog down with his knees and stab it multiple time in the stomach and neck.
Neighbors also said they came outside after they heard a dog yelping.
Investigators say they determined that Shoemaker was at a residence on Highland Park Dr., but did not answer the door.
Once the homeowner arrived at the scene deputies say he allowed them to enter the home where they found Shoemaker still wearing the pants that were worn during the attack.
The pants were reportedly covered with blood stains and deputies were able to locate the knife used in the attack.
Shoemaker was charged with felony animal cruelty.
