Charlotte shot 64% from the field in a hot shooting, 51-point second half performance on way to picking up the team’s first Conference USA win in the Mark Price era, 82-76 at Southern Miss on Thursday night.
Five 49ers finished in double-digits including freshman Jon Davis’ 18 points. Charlotte (4-10, 1-1) will move on to face Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
“I was proud of our guys,” Charlotte 49ers coach Mark Price said through the team’s website. “We fought back and played through some issues like 15 missed free throws. We still were able to win the game. I was really proud of the way our guys played. Two teams that were hungry to get a win. I was proud of our guys for playing hard for 40 minutes.”
Charlotte jumped out to a first half lead, 15-4, before Southern Miss took over the rest of the half. Southern Miss led 36-31 thank in part to a 22-5 run in the middle of the first half.
With 6:23 remaining in the game, Davis completed a three-point play to give the 49ers the lead for good 60-59. Ogbueze and Uchebo knocked down jumper pushing Charlotte’s lead to 64-59 with 4:55 on the clock.
