Man Charged With DWI After Driving Through Cemetery

MAIDEN, NC — The Maiden Police Chief confirms an arrest has been made after a man drove through a local cemetery causing tens of thousands of dollars in damages.

James Walker faces charges including DWI, open container, hit and run, and destruction of property after police say he drove through Maiden Municipal Cemetery overnight.

Officials say Walker destroyed as many as 20 headstones and markers, as well as memorials and grounds. The damages are estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
