UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Police have arrested two people in connection to a string of church break-ins in Union County.

Ashley Flowers, 29, and David Simpson, 65, were arrested on Monday evening for multiple church break-ins that happened in December.
Police say stereo equipment, televisions, and other miscellaneous electronic items were stolen from the churches, and later recovered in several Charlotte area pawn shops.
An officer located Simpson while conducting a traffic stop. During that encounter, the officer was the victim of a serious felony assault, for which Simpson was later convicted. He was also found to be in possession of equipment that had just been stolen from churches in that area.
The following churches were victims in this current string of break ins:
1. Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church in Monroe
2. New Hope Baptist Church in Marshville
3. Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Marshville
4. Fairfield Baptist Church in Marshville
5. Rocky River True Light Church in Monroe
