Charlotte's Brad Lambert continues to add options at quarterback.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — The 49ers have added another quarterback to the mix for the 2016 season.

Former East Carolina back-up quarterback and Charlotte native Cody Keith has enrolled at Charlotte and will practice with the team this spring. Keith will have one year of eligibility remaining and be able to play right away, according to the school’s sports information department.

None of the three quarterbacks the 49ers played this season: Brooks Barden, Lee McNeil or Matt Johnson, separated themselves from the rest.  Charlotte’s quarterbacks combined to throw 12 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

The team had already added Kevin Olsen, a transfer from Riverside (CA.) Community College. Olsen is the younger brother of Panthers tight end Greg Olsen.

Cody Keith played his high school ball at South Mecklenburg HS until his junior year where he finished high school at Maranantha HS in California. In that junior campaign at South Mecklenburg, he led his team to a state semifinal appearance.

Keith saw limited time at East Carolina and missed the 2014 season because of an elbow injury. According to news reports, he elected to leave the team in September.

Keith’s brother in-law is PGA golfer Webb Simpson.
