Will the Panthers-Seahawks Game Come Down to Kickers?
The countdown is on! In just two days, the Panthers will take on Seattle in the NFC Divisional Playoffs. The Seahawks have won the past two championships, and the Panthers are making their third straight playoff appearance, with a record of 15-1.
Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera says the team knows the task at hand.
“A couple years ago I think I learned, we learned a valuable lesson in terms of maintaining your composure,” said Rivera. “And I think there’s been a lot of things we’ve grown through in the past two seasons in the playoffs.”
The Panthers have home field advantage Sunday, something they didn’t have last year. But Seattle Times sports writer Larry Stone says that’s not enough.
“It will be decided by a Steven Hauschka field goal—and unlike Blair Walsh, he’ll nail it,” said Stone.
John Breech of cbssports.com agreed, saying, “These two teams are basically mirror images of each other, except at kicker, and if we learned anything from the Seahawks game in Minnesota, it’s that having the more accurate kicker helps.”
