North Carolina Officials Make Friendly Wager With Arizona Officials On Panthers Game

Press Release – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) and members of the North Carolina delegation have placed a friendly wager on the Carolina Panthers-Arizona Cardinals NFL playoff game with Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) and Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09), whose districts include the Phoenix metropolitan area. Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10) of Denver, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (NC-02) of Dunn, and Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) of Greensboro are also participating in the wager.

“It’s been over a year since the Panthers lost a game in Charlotte, a year that includes a playoff victory over the Cardinals,” said Congressman Pittenger. “It’s going to pain us to beat up on the state bird that represents the land of the long leaf pine, but we’ll get over it while wearing our NFC Champion shirts.”

Following the Panthers victory over the Arizona Cardinals, Congressman Schweikert will offer Goldwater chili, and Congresswoman Sinema will offer a dozen Arizona tamales. Should the Cardinals somehow pull off the upset, Congressman Pittenger will offer North Carolina’s famous Bojangles’ chicken and Cheerwine soft drink.

“In the unlikely event that Arizona wins, Reps. Sinema and Schweikert can look forward to taking home some sweet treats from the famous Sherry’s Bakery in my hometown of Dunn,” said Congresswoman Ellmers. “But my Arizona colleagues better take a good, long look at those peach fritters and donuts now because those goodies are staying in NC02. Go Panthers!”

“Last week, the Panthers showed up and showed out when they defeated the Seahawks 31-24,” said Congresswoman Adams. “This week, I know they’ll do the same in defeating the Cardinals. If for some unimaginable reason it doesn’t go our way, I’ll provide homemade cookies from the Carolina Cookie Company in Greensboro, a local and national treasure. #KeepPoundingPanthers.”
