CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged Kenneth McIllwaine, 50, for his involvement in a burglary and attempted sexual assault.
On October 21st, 1995, an elderly female victim was inside of her residence on Amay James Avenue, when an unknown male forced his way into the building. During a violent struggle between the two, the male suspect attempted to sexually assault the victim and rob her at gunpoint.
The case was recently reexamined by the Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit and McIllwaine was developed as the suspect.
On Monday morning, McIllwaine was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with Burglary, Attempted Rape, and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
