CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man for a string of break-ins targeting homes under construction.

Larry Smith, 55, has been charged with Felony Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of Burglary Tools.
In early January 2016, officials noticed a spike in new home construction thefts that were targeting newly installed appliances. Over 20 thefts that occurred since December 28th, affecting several CMPD Divisions.
On January 29th, detectives located Smith leaving the scene of a break-in on Graypark Drive with a stove in the back of his pick-up truck. Smith was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he confessed to the break-in.
