VIDEO: Below Ground Rescue in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gastonia Fire Department worked to rescue a man who had fallen into a 12-foot hole.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon at a construction site on 128 West Main Avenue. A 59-year-old male construction worker fell into the hole leading into the basement of the old Lawyers building.

The Gastonia Fire Department’s Rescue Team used a ladder truck and harnessing devices to lower a stokes basket into the hole. Rescuers then secured the man in the stokes basket to be raised out of danger.

Gaston EMS transported the man to the hospital with multiple injuries to his extremities. None appeared life-threatening.
