Crews Treat Roads Ahead of Possible Snow & Ice

CHARLOTTE, NC – State and local DOT Crews will work overnight, treating the roads ahead of possible snow and ice for the Monday morning commute.

“This storm’s been very tricky, because they’ve said that as it was coming in, it could be snow, then sleet, then freezing rain,” explains Ken Martin, with the Charlotte Department of Transportation.

Martin says his crews are preparing for whatever Winter Weather hits the Charlotte area.

Both CDOT and NCDOT have already treated the roads with brine, a salt and water solution that keeps ice from sticking to the pavement.

CDOT crews were activated at 9pm Sunday and will begin laying down rock salt when the storm begins. 32 trucks are working city roads.

NCDOT will be back out on state roads, including Interstates around 2:00 or 3:00 am Sunday.

They have 27 trucks in Mecklenburg County, and contractors on standby if needed.
