STAFF REPORTS — Charlotte could hit just 8 of 28 from beyond the three point line and could not slow down a high-powered Marshall attack as the 49ers lose, 87-72, to Marshall on Thursday night.
Charlotte (10-16, C-USA: 6-7) was led by freshman Andrien White’s 16 points — his 14th double-digit point effort this season. Braxton Ogbueze recorded his 16th double-figure scoring game with 12 points. Reid Aube and Curran Scott added eight points apiece. Joseph Uchebo tallied a team-high nine rebounds.
Marshall had four players in double-figures led by James Kelly’s 27 points. Kelly also grabbed 23 rebounds.
The Thundering Herd came out of the gates strong as Marshall opened up a 15-5 lead six minutes into the game thanks to a 10-1 run. The lead was as many as 16 points in the first half.
Charlotte cut the lead to as little as six points early in the second half but could not hold off the Herd from there. Marshall scored four straight points, pushing their lead back to double-figures, 46-36, with 17:37 on the clock.
The 49ers conclude their two-game Conference USA road trip in Bowling Game at WKU, Saturday, February 20 at 3 pm. The game will be broadcast nationally on Fox College Sports.
