Fraternity Members Charged With Hazing

CHARLOTTE, NC — We are learning more about hazing allegations involving six men connected to a fraternity at Johnson C. Smith University.
That fraternity, Omega Psi Phi, is suspended from JCSU’s campus. Police arrested five of the fraternity brothers earlier this week.
A man told police he wanted to pledge the fraternity. He says he met with members several times on and off campus between November and this month. He says they hit him numerous times with an object, causing severe injuries. Students are shocked by the allegations.
“It’s terrible,” said JCSU freshman Dalontay Belton. “People shouldn’t be hazing, ’cause the hazing is serious stuff; like, people get hurt seriously.”
JCSU is conducting an internal investigation. University spokesperson Sherri Belfield tells WCCB Charlotte, “(hazing) has no place on our campus, and the University has a zero-tolerance for hazing in academic life, student life or athletics.”
