The driver in Tuesday’s fatal accident on Windy Grove Road has been identified as 18-year-old Austin Locke.
Officials say Locke remains in critical condition. Charges are pending against him.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating a fatal accident that left one person dead and three injured on Windy Grove Road Tuesday morning.
Police say the accident happened around 9:15am on Windy Grove Road and Walkers Ferry.
Upon arrival they located four victims in a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Three of the occupantsΒ were transported by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries. TwoΒ have been identified asΒ Gerado Gillen, 18,Β Esmerelda Hermosillo, 18.
One of the occupants, identified as Heaven Seay, 15, was pronounced deceased on scene.
The Major Crash Investigations Unit responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. Information and evidence gathered on scene led them in determining that the Mitsubishi Eclipse was being driven at a high rate of speed on Windy Grove Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the oncoming traffic lane, then drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Speed is a contributing factor for this crash.
All passengers inside the vehicle were students at West Mecklenburg High School. At this time it is unknown if the driver is a student of a Charlotte Mecklenburg School.
