Eight Run 7th Inning Lifts 49ers past UGA at BB&T Ballpark

Charlotte sends 13 to the plate in the seventh inning on way to knocking off a SEC foe in the first of three games the 49ers will play in Uptown.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Charlotte’s Logan Sherer capped a 4-for-4 night with a 3-run home-run in an eight run, seventh inning on way to the 49ers defeating Georgia 10-5 on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown.

Charlotte improved to (6-6) on the season while Georgia fell to (8-5).

The big seventh frame came after Georgia hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Charlotte loaded the bases with nobody out before T.J. Nichting started the rally with a RBI single through the left side. Zach Jarrett added a 2-RBI double, a run was walked in and Reece Hampton plated one more with an RBI single before Sherer’s home run.

The home run for Sherer was his third of the season and the four RBI runs his total up to 15 for the season–both statistics lead his team.

Georgia scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning with an RBI ground out. Charlotte took the lead with single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Charlotte will face off against Georgia for a second straight day on Wednesday but will move locations. Wednesday’s game will be on campus at Robert & Mariam Hayes Stadium — first pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
