Travelers Face Massive Delays Over The Holiday Weekend.

CHARLOTTE, NC– “Since the traffic we missed the flight and they don’t have any connected flights because of the Denver snowstorm everything being backed up, ” said Lexington, SC resident Wendi Sander

Sanders says she didn’t factor in spring breakers while planning her flight.

American airlines estimates nearly 30,000 passengers flew through its Charlotte-Douglas International hub on Friday.

“We should’ve planned on being here 3 hours early instead,” said Sanders

According to American Airlines, 500 passengers missed flights due to backed up security checkpoints.

“We got here 3 hours, 3 half hours before our flight.”

Paige Welborn and her family were not taking any chances.

“You never know whats going to happen plus I had a rental car to return,” said Welburn.

A rep from American Airlines told me they are expecting 27,000 passengers to fly out Saturday, double their normal number.

And released this statement about

“We all want security at airports, but TSA has an obligation to be properly staffed to handle the traffic.

Currently they are well understaffed, and there doesn’t seem to be any plans in place to address the shortage.”

The TSA reports it has 1,600 fewer agents than last year.

I reached out to TSA, they blame extra traffic and enhanced security for the wait.

“The TSA will not compromise security in order to move travelers more quickly through the screening process.”

With wait times reaching an hour to an hour and a half today, many travelers say they are not taking any chances with missing flights.

“We want to get out there enjoy the break we don’t want to be waiting at the airport all day,” said Greenville, SC resident Heather Gage.
